Abacus Shade Structures has been operating in Sydney as a fabricator and installer of Shade Structures and Tarpaulins since 1984.


Shade Structures come in many forms. They may be of a permanent nature such as outdoor extensions to restaurant & hotels, sails over public spaces, schools, car yards; or sails may be semi-permanent such as event marquees and screens. Abacus Shade Structures manufacturers tarpaulins for industrial and domestic uses including truck tarpaulins, hire tarpaulins, builders’ tarpaulins, machinery covers and screens.

With twenty years experience in plastics, Abacus Shade Structures has a strong presence in this industry - an industry that is much older and which has evolved from ancient crafts of converting flax, jute & hemp plants into ropes and coarsely woven canvas for tents, sails and clothing. Today with freedom of design, advanced membrane fabrics and advanced fabrication techniques, membrane fabrics and structures are at a new level of style, application and aesthetics.

Abacus Shade Structures operates from premises in Emu Plains, 50kms west of Sydney, in a bustling growth area. We service Sydney, NSW and further a field via excellent freeways, courier and freight transporting networks. At our purpose built factory we offer:

Welding and Sewing

High frequency welding & wedge welding of colour & clear PVC's & weldable membrane fabrics.
Hot air welding for repairing of membrane fabrics.
Welding of large polyethylene sheets e.g. builders’ sheets & liners.
Sewing of double seams and hems on shade cloths & canvas fabrics using industrial long & short arm sewing machines.
Finishing detail for shade cloth & PVC’s including eyeleting, roping, sign writing, reinforcements, cabling and webbing.

Steel Processing and Painting
